Every April 26, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day to learn about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

This year, we are exploring the future of culture in the digital age: how we create it, how we access it, how we finance it. We will look into how a flexible intellectual property system helps ensure that the artists and
creative industries are properly paid for their work, so they can keep creating.”  WIPO (25/04/2016)

This year, the Zimbabwe Institute of Patent and Trademark Agents celebrates World IP day together with all innovators, inventors, and IP Practitioners around the world.  Our role is to protect the interests of persons engaged in the profession of Patent or Trademark Agents as well as the interests of all proprietors of intellectual or industrial property.

What is Intellectual Property?

Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce.

IP is protected in law by, for example, patents, copyright and trademarks, which enable people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they invent or create. By striking the right balance between the interests of innovators and the wider public interest, the IP system aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish.
